Industry Meets Academia as OGITECH Students Embark on Educational Study Tour

Students of the Higher National Diploma (HND I) Programme in the Department of Business Administration, Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, recently embarked on an educational study tour to the Ogun Guangdong Free Trade Zone, Igbesa, as part of their Production Management course.

The tour was led by the Course Lecturer and Dean, School of Business and Management Studies, Mr. Owotutu Olamilekan Sabitu. Also present during the exercise were Dr. Akomolafe Adewale, Mr. Ogunleye Eniola, and Mr. Taiwo, who accompanied the students on the educational excursion.

The visit was organized to provide students with practical exposure to industrial production processes and business operations, thereby complementing the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom.

During the tour, students were taken through various sections of the Ogun Guangdong Free Trade Zone, where they observed modern production techniques, operational procedures, quality control measures, and management practices employed by industries operating within the zone. The experience provided them with firsthand insight into the realities of industrial production and business administration.

Speaking on the significance of the tour, Mr. Owotutu Olamilekan Sabitu stated that the exercise was designed to expose students to practical aspects of production management and enable them to understand how theoretical concepts are applied in real business environments.

"The essence of this study tour is to expose our students to practical realities of production management beyond the four walls of the classroom. As future managers, entrepreneurs, and business leaders, they need firsthand knowledge of how industries operate, manage resources, maintain quality standards, and achieve organizational objectives," he said.

As part of the excursion, the students also visited the Chinese School located within the Free Trade Zone. The School Administrator, Mrs. Yetunde Abimbola Akinboade, personally conducted the students around the facility and shared valuable information about the institution's operations and educational activities. She commended the initiative, describing the study tour as a positive and impactful learning experience for the students.

Speaking with our correspondent after the visit, the Class Head, Miss Adepoju Opeyemi Christiana, described the tour as an eye-opener.

"This study tour was truly an eye-opening experience for us as students. It provided a rare opportunity to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-life industrial operations. Seeing production processes firsthand and understanding the business side of industrial operations has broadened our knowledge and enhanced our learning experience," she said.

The students expressed appreciation to the Department of Business Administration and the School Management for facilitating the educational excursion, noting that the experience has strengthened their understanding of production management and industrial business practices.

The study tour further reflects Ogun State Institute of Technology's commitment to experiential learning and its determination to equip students with practical knowledge and industry exposure necessary for academic excellence and professional success.

IBEDC's Persistent Blackouts Are Allegedly Fueling Insecurity in Igboko-Nla and Igbesa

The residents of Igboko-Nla and Igbesa communities in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State are increasingly alarmed by the persistent failure of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to provide stable electricity to our communities.

At a time when insecurity has become a national concern, it is disturbing that entire neighborhoods are left in darkness for prolonged periods. Darkness has become a breeding ground for criminal activities, exposing residents, students, business owners, and commuters to avoidable dangers.

Igbesa is a major student-populated community hosting thousands of young Nigerians pursuing higher education. These students already face numerous challenges, yet they are now forced to live under constant fear due to the epileptic power supply that leaves streets, hostels, and surrounding communities vulnerable to criminal elements.

Cases of robbery, theft, harassment, and attacks on residents have become a growing concern. Many students and residents can no longer move freely at night. Businesses are shutting down earlier than usual, while others spend enormous sums on alternative power sources just to survive.

The continued failure of IBEDC to provide reliable electricity is not merely an inconvenience; it has become a serious security issue. A dark community is an unsafe community. Security agencies, community leaders, and residents can only do so much when entire neighborhoods are plunged into darkness for days and weeks.

The economic consequences are equally devastating. Small-scale businesses are struggling, investors are discouraged, and some residents are already considering relocating to safer and better-served areas. This trend threatens the growth and development of our communities.

We therefore call on IBEDC to immediately address the poor power situation affecting Igboko-Nla, Igbesa, and surrounding communities. We also urge the Ogun State Government, relevant regulatory agencies, traditional rulers, and elected representatives to intervene before the situation deteriorates further.

The people of Igboko-Nla and Igbesa deserve safe communities, thriving businesses, and reliable electricity. Access to power is not a privilege; it is an essential service that directly affects security, education, and economic development.

Enough of the darkness. Enough of the excuses. Our communities deserve better.
