OGITECH Hosts Landmark Workshop to Strengthen Registry Operations

The Rector of Ogun State Institute of Technology, Dr Abiodun Oluseye, has emphasised the critical role of a functional and efficient registry in the administration of tertiary institutions, noting that any weakness in the system could significantly hinder coordination and service delivery.

Dr. Oluseye made this known on Wednesday while declaring open the maiden annual training organised by the institution’s Registry Department at Igbesa in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area. He described the registry as the life-wire of any higher institution, explaining that its effectiveness determines whether such an institution thrives or struggles administratively.

According to him, the registry embodies the formal structure, policies, and operational laws that guide institutional processes, while also serving as the mechanism through which decisions are properly implemented. He added that registry personnel act as both custodians and interpreters of these guiding principles, making their role indispensable to institutional stability and progress.

The rector stressed that the demanding nature of the job requires continuous capacity building, urging registrars to invest in self-development in order to stay equipped with relevant knowledge and skills needed to support leadership and ensure effective policy implementation.

He explained that the institution’s decision to institutionalise the training programme through workshops, seminars, and lectures was borne out of the need to strengthen administrative efficiency and productivity. The theme of the workshop, “Contemporary Higher Education Registry: The Imperatives of Reskilling and Upskilling,” he noted, is timely and reflective of the evolving realities in the education sector driven by technology and changing learner dynamics.

In her contribution, the Acting Registrar, Mrs Sakirat Johnson, described the workshop as a strategic initiative aimed at reinforcing the administrative backbone of higher institutions. She highlighted the central role of the registry in managing academic records, coordinating institutional processes, and ensuring compliance with policies.

Johnson further noted that the rapidly changing landscape of higher education demands that registry personnel continuously update their competencies to meet emerging challenges and expectations.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Ayotunde Odulaja, commended the rector for his proactive leadership and reaffirmed the council’s support for initiatives that promote institutional development. He encouraged participants to take full advantage of the training to enhance their performance and contribute meaningfully to their respective roles.

The workshop attracted participants from across the state and featured insightful sessions facilitated by experienced professionals, including keynote speaker Dr Omojola Awosusi, alongside other experts in higher education administration.

Dignitaries present at the event included traditional rulers led by the Oba Abdul-Azeez Oluwatoyin Akinde, principal officers of the institution, and members of both the academic and administrative community.

As part of activities marking the event, awards of excellence were presented to notable individuals in recognition of their contributions to the growth of education in Nigeria. Those honoured were Pastor (Mrs) Funmilayo Bolanle Adeleke, Engr Olatunji Akinosi, and Hon Yusuf Kamorudeen Olawale.

The training provided a platform for knowledge exchange and professional development, with participants gaining practical insights aimed at strengthening registry operations and enhancing administrative effectiveness in tertiary institutions.
